GREETINGS!

In this theme, you will find out how to do the following in Indonesian:

* Introducing self
* Saying where somebody comes from.

How to introduce yourself:
- Halo kenalkan, nama saya Dina. Hello, my name is Dina.
 
How to say where somebody comes from:
- Saya dari Singapura. I come from Singapore.
How to ask and answer someone’s name:
- Siapa nama anda?     Nama saya Rini.
- What is your name? My name is Rini.
How to ask and reply someone how he or she is:
- Apa kabar?       Baik, terima Kasih.
- How are you?  I am find thank you.
How to say “See you later”:
-Sampai jumpa lagi.
How to say goodbye:
-Ani: Selamat tinggal, John!    (to the person who is staying)
-John: Selamat Jalan, Ani!        (to person who is leaving)
How to ask the names of family members and friends:
-Siapa nama ibu anda?          What is your mother name?
-Siapa nama bapak kamu?   What is your father name?

Notes:

Greetings, leave-takings and other best wishes:
Indonesian greets other, saying the words:

Selamat pagi!          (in the morning)
Selamat siang!        (at day time)
Selamat sore!          (in the afternoon)
Selamat malam!      (after dark)
Selamat tidur!         Good night! Sleep well!
Selamat makan!      Have a good meal
Selamat bekerja!      I wish you success with your work.
Selamat datang!      Welcome!

 In congratulations:

Selamat Tahun Baru! Happy a New Year! (on New Year’s day)

Selamat Ulang Tahun!  Happy Birthday! (on birthdays or anniversaries)

Or simply: SELAMAT! for other of congratulations.

THANKS: The Indonesian equivalent of Thank you (terima kasih)

Thank you very much is terima kasih banyak.

The immediate reply is: kembali or sama-sama ( the same to you).
