Kindergarten is having a fun time learning while singing.

Started from the beginning of the year, Kindergarten students have been learning the Indonesian language by singing songs such as; greeting songs, numbers songs, and body part songs. They will have a fun time to make some puppets related with the songs. Students will also play different kinds of traditional Indonesian games such as; main lidi, congklak, kelereng, and bakiak tali).

Here is a Kindergarten favorit song. This song tells about the name of shape, describing shape, and number.

Grade 5 is having fun time in playing gamelan and making an ONDEL-ONDEL

ONDEL – ONDEL is A GIANT PUPPET (huge human effigies) mascot from Betawi (local Jakarta) which is used on Betawi’s marriage ceremonies or JAKARTA’S Anniversary Festivals. Presumably, the effigies were in former times used to scare evil spirits and chase them out the village.

While we are discussing facts about Jakarta Grade 5 has chance to make one of Jakarta Art and Crafts that is Ondel-Ondel by using batik technique for the clothes.

Grade 5 students are working hard on learning gamelan. They are going to perform gamelan for the two UN Day concerts which on Thursday night and Friday morning.

Grade 4 is excited with playing gamelan and discussing fisherman’s life

Grade Four Putih has been learning Gamelan. They will perform during for Grade 4 class ESLR’s Assembly.In the unit of Ocean, we have been discussing obout fisherman life, wacthed movie about it, and using adjective and verb to describe people and sea creatures.

Here are some examples:

- Ini ikan pari merah.

- Ikan pari berenang cepat sekali.

- Ikan pari berenang di air laut biru.

- Saya pintar berenang di pantai.

For Art and Crafts:

We are going to make “Batk Fish” use paper and wash painting.

Grade Three is having fun learning greetings and names of family term.

Grade Three learns how to introduce self, where they live, and greet people in different situations. They tell about the family members and describe them.

Here are some examples:

-Halo, selamat pagi, nama saya David.

-Saya dari Australia.

-Nama ibu saya Rebecca.

-Ibu saya cantik dan pintar.

This is a song for family:

Here is one of our greeting songs that students always sing this to start the lesson:

Grade 2 has been continuing learning more about the Alphabet and will have fun with pounding paddy.

For First Semester, Grade Two is focusing in learning the alphabet sounds. We will also learn the process of how the paddy plants become cooked rice. Students will pound the paddy using traditional tools (a lumpang and alu which it made from wood) and Finally, they are going to cook and enjoy eating nasi goreng.

The alphabet and its pronunciation

Indonesian letters are the same as the ones used in English. All letters a through z are used, and no other letters are used. Of course, they are pronounced differently. However, unlike English, Indonesian letters are pronounced much more consistently and no letters are muted. You will find that the pronunciation is much closer to Spanish.Below is a table of the Indonesian alphabet. The pronunciation column shows how we pronounce the letter in Indonesian. The sound column shows how it sounds in English. If there are no notes in the sound column, it is roughly the same as English. Listen to how Indonesian pronounce their alphabets: A-M; N-Z
